Founder:
Patrick Gibson B.Sc M.Sc Eng (UCT), MBA (GSB UCT)
Patrick
is an Electronic Engineer who has worked for several multi-national
companies, both in South Africa (Ziton) and in the United Kingdom
and Ireland (GPT, 3Com). Much of his experience has been as part of
large and small R&D technical teams designing and developing hi-tech
electronic products.
After completing his Masters of Electronic
Engineering in 1989, he joined Ziton as part of their R&D design
team, designing fire detection equipment. He left Ziton in mid
1990 and did some consultancy and design work for several
companies in the Cape Town area.
In 1992 he relocated to the UK from South Africa and joined GPT
Video Systems' (Now Marconi) R&D team where he was responsible for
designing and developing the electronic hardware for several
subsystems of the company's latest Video Conferencing products.
He gained extensive experience and expertise
with video compression and decompression methodologies such
as H.261 and did research on the impact of video compression
on users of video conferencing equipment. He held leadership
and senior positions at GPT, both as the team leader of the
'Video Compression team', as well as working on projects in
the USA, Singapore and Azerbaijan.
In 1997 he joined 3Com's international R&D team (spanning UK,
Ireland & USA) designing Application Specific Integrated Chips (ASICs)
for the company's latest Gigabit Ethernet technology for LAN
Superstack II and III Switches (4900 range). As senior member of the
team, he was responsible for managing the design and development of
several of the different ASIC subsystems. He is also the co-author
of several USA and UK 3Com networking
patents.
In 2004 he returned to South Africa and completed a full time MBA at
UCT’s Graduate School of Business (ranked in the Financial Time's
top 100 world wide).
Upon completion of the MBA, Patrick founded
Precision Networks in mid 2005, which is an IT Networking
company providing professional and affordable networking and IT
solutions to SMEs. Precision Networks also provides IT equipment
at very affordable prices through Precision Computers.
Precision Networks has also formed strategic
partnerships with many companies such as Cisco, Nashua Mobile,
Mecer, Tarsus, Duxbury, Pinnacle and several other equipment
suppliers in order to be able to deliver the right solutions to
SMEs, at the best possible price.
In 2006, he was one of the founding members of BEE Consortium Sinazo
IT Group, where Precision Networks teamed up with black owned IT
company Poised in order to work on larger networking projects
together in partnership. Together the consortium have worked on
several successful large networking projects.
Precision Networks moved offices to Cape Town's
CBD in May 2005 as part of a strategic move to engage SME
companies more actively in the CBD area.
When not busy with the "serious stuff", Patrick can be found
changing nappies and playing football with his son John and daughter
Meghan or drinking
good wine with his "better half" and deputy editor of Wine Magazine,
Joanne. |
